Ipsy Time! June: Swim into Beauty

Did anyone else’s bag smell like fish food?  Ah well, it’s kinda cool.  I like neon orange.  It was almost big enough to be a cover for my Kindle.  Maybe I’ll make some alterations to the zipper.  3 out of 5 for the bag itself.

Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer – (full size 1 floz $36) ipsy sample 0.25 floz $9 My prediction was entirely accurate.  While this primer does as good a job at hiding pores as Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More, it otherwise feels like any other primer.  I’m not sure I’d pay for the brand if a drugstore primer is almost as good.  It is better than most primers, but the difference isn’t too dramatic.  4 out of 5.

Glamierre Flat Top Concealer Brush$5.95 (reg $12.95)  This ended up being a really good sized brush.  I assumed it would be something small for blending out concealer over blemishes, but the dime-size tip is great for working over dark circles.  The bristles are gentle enough for sensitive under eye areas.  It’s not as effective at evening out spots over blemishes, so I’ll still need a second tool for that, but this is still a nice brush overall.  4 out of 5.

J.Cat Beauty Liptitude 24/7 Hydrating Lip Stain $5.99 (color: Blow Your Mind)  A word of advice: skip the applicator and use a lip brush.  The wand dishes out way more product than you will need and is really clumsy.  On the positive, it’s very highly pigmented.  A little bit goes a very long way.  It’s lightweight and feels nice.  I have a ton of products in similar shades, but this one is the most intense.  I encourage you to have some makeup wipes handy for your finger when you go to safeguard your teeth.  It’s definitely a stain.  3 out of 5.

BioRepublic SkinCare Sheet Mask Trio – $4.99 x 3 $14.97  My surprise 5 out of 5!  The trio included a Green Tea Detox, Cucumber Breeze, and Aloe Rescue.  I’ve so far only tried the green tea mask, but my first experience with a sheet mask has been very positive.  I can see why people love them.  When I put it on, the texture of the sheet led me to believe it would dry as I wore it, but the cool gel stayed damp the entire time.  I reread the instructions and noticed that the excess gel was meant to stay on after the mask.  It was so soothing and my face felt so fresh and happy from this mask.  I only have two more, so now I have to decide whether to use them as often as the label says I can, or save them for days when I need extra pampering.  These will be excellent for hot summer days.

tre’StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon (color: Marimoto Pink Pearl) $10.66 ($32 for mini trio) Slight disappointment from this one.  The color is okay, but I have so many products in this color that it doesn’t bring anything new to the collection.  The texture is nice.  It would be a great blending base for a natural look.  I have to say, this one gave me a scare.  I thought I’d lost the lid in my bag and shook it out in a panic.  Then I realized that the lid was made to look like a pencil.  Also, the mini versions of these crayons don’t have the smudger built in like the full-size.  It only gets a 3 out of 5 from me.

Total value: $45.57; ipsy price: $10

Overall score: 3.6, B

It’s not the best bag I’ve gotten, but the masks alone cost more than the subscription, and they’re wonderful.  I’m happy for the chance to try all the items, especially the primer.  It’s always a good bag when there’s a brush inside. If you aren’t a subscriber and would like to be, the bag is always worth more than $10, so I highly recommend a subscription.
