The theme for ipsy’s June glam bag is “Swim into Beauty.” I expected there would be a variety of waterproof products, but so far the only thing that really resonates with the theme is the hydrating lip stain. Let’s make some predictions, shall we?
Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer – (full size 1 floz $36) ipsy sample 0.25 floz $9 The first sneak peek this month was a guarantee of either Too Faced or Smashbox. I don’t have anything from either brand yet, so I’m already pretty happy about this. While I don’t need more primer, perhaps this primer will be so awesome that I can throw out all my old stuff. Who wins: the optimist or the realist? I’m going to leave this at a 4 out of 5.
Glamierre Flat Top Concealer Brush – $5.95 (reg $12.95) I’m always a little conflicted about a product when the brand marks the price down this much on their own website at the same time that it’s being featured in a subscription bag. On the one hand, it’s nice, because the coupon codes make it even cheaper so you can share or stock up. On the other hand, it looks like the brand just had an abundance of this product and needed to get it moving through samples and discounts. Why wasn’t it moving? Okay, it’s hard to lose with a brush. I’m happy to receive this, but I can tell absolutely nothing about it from a picture, so I’ll leave it at a 3 out of 5 until I know more.
J.Cat Beauty Liptitude 24/7 Hydrating Lip Stain – $5.99 (colors: Hikilicious or Blow Your Mind) A brand new product from J.Cat, I’m looking forward to trying this one. The color choices aren’t all that exciting. I’ve got so many things this color already, but as I said about the primer, if this one is awesome, I can chuck the old stuff and make some room in my makeup box. I enjoyed the lip paint from my first ipsy bag (it became one of my 14 Favorites of 2014). I’ll reserve a 4 out of 5.
BioRepublic SkinCare Sheet Mask Trio – $4.99 x 3 $14.97 The picture is a little deceiving, the ipsy sample actually includes three different sheet masks. This will be a first for me. I’ve always wanted to try a sheet mask. I’m somewhat nervous about masks, because I’ve had a skin reaction to a peel, but I’m sure this will be fine. If not, I’ll have two unopened masks to give away. I want this to be my 5, but I’ll sit at a 3 out of 5 for now.
tre’StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon – (colors: Marimoto Pink Pearl, Venetian Gold, Kona Coffee, Aspen Pine) $10.66 ($32 for mini trio) The concept behind all the tre’StiQue products seems to be a compact 3-in-1 makeup with applicator. Looking at the swatches on their site, if you get the Kona Coffee color, you can very easily use this stick for contouring. I have another eyeshadow stick that I purchased for the sole purpose of contouring, but as summer kicks off and my skin warms, that shade is going to look a bit sickly. While it would be nice to have a multitasker, I’d be just as pleased with the other colors. I’ll set this at a 4 out of 5, and reserve a possible 5 if they can surprise me with the matte brown color.
Total value: $45.57; ipsy price: $10
This looks like a pretty fun month from ipsy. They’ve covered the three biggies (skin, lips, eyes) for me this month, so that’s always good. I’m pleased again with the total value of the bag, and the inclusion of Smashbox and J.Cat. If you aren’t a subscriber and would like to be, the bag is always worth more than $10, so I highly recommend a subscription. Look for my reviews later this month.
